What's Going On
Yemen is enduring one of the most severe humanitarian crises in modern history, with 21.6 million people urgently needing aid, over half of whom are children. The civil war, ongoing since 2014, has ravaged the country despite sporadic peace efforts, such as the 2022 truce. Violence, displacement, and lack of basic resources have left 11.1 million children requiring humanitarian assistance. Of these, 9 million are in desperate need of protection, while 8.6 million require education support. Additionally, 5 million children under five are at risk of chronic malnutrition, further exacerbating the nation’s struggle to safeguard its youngest generation.
What We're Doing
Children in Conflict has been active in Yemen since 2016, delivering crucial services across regions like Sanaa, Taiz, Aden, Ibb, and Al-Hudaydah. In 2023 alone, we supported over 18,000 children and adults through a range of vital programs. Our work includes rehabilitating schools, providing catch-up classes for out-of-school children, and equipping teachers with essential tools. We also run community centers and child-friendly spaces, giving families resources to promote mental well-being. In addition to education and protection, we provide legal documentation, cash relief, and vocational training, empowering families to support their children’s futures and access vital public services.
From the ground
"My mom and I are the sole breadwinners in the family, and I have never been to school in my entire life. The support has opened new possibilities to improve our living conditions."
