Protecting Children in the MIDST of conflict

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia stemmed from political unrest in Ukraine in 2014, leading to Russia's annexation of Crimea. This move sparked tensions between the two nations, escalating into a full-scale war in eastern Ukraine. This has resulted in dire humanitarian consequences for Ukrainians, who have been living under constant fear and threat of death.

17.6 million children and adults need humanitarian assistance as a result of ongoing conflict. Several hundred thousand Ukrainians have sought refuge in countries such as Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and others, while many others were internally displaced within Ukraine itself.

Millions of children who have been displaced from their homes, separated from families, and exposed to the trauma of violence and instability. Many schools and healthcare facilities have been damaged or disrupted, affecting children's access to education and healthcare services. There have been reports of children being injured or killed in the conflict, and the psychological toll on their well-being has been significant.

RESPOND.

The “Cash for Protection” Intervention is an Emergency Response project we support, which provides cash assistance to children living in extremely vulnerable situations. These grants provide children with access to urgent medical, transportation, and shelter services. Beneficiaries of this intervention include survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, unaccompanied children, internally displaced families, and refugees.

RECOVER.

We’re helping to build up a multi-national child protection system. This includes prevention and response to child neglect and exploitation situations. We work with local partners and community networks with the tools they need to raise public awareness and inform children, parents, and community leaders about issues that affect children.

REBUILD.

The “Can’t Wait To Learn” program provides a solution to close the education gap that grows out of conflict - both in formal school and out-of-school settings. It offers children the opportunity to continue to learn by playing educational games on tablet devices, contributing to their improved psychosocial wellbeing.

as the war rages on, so do we.
