Syria’s civil war, now in its 13th year, continues to generate a severe humanitarian crisis. Over 7 million children are in urgent need of assistance as violence and instability persist throughout the country. The war has displaced 6.9 million people, with children particularly vulnerable to harm. Nearly half of Syria’s school-aged children, about 2.4 million, are out of school, while many others face significant barriers to education. The situation in northwest Syria is especially dire, where 90% of the population depends on humanitarian aid for survival. Compounding these challenges, the 2023 earthquakes caused further devastation, leaving families in desperate need of support.
Children in Conflict, working through a network of local partners, has been active across Syria since 2012, delivering critical services to children and families affected by war. In 2023, we supported nearly 200,000 children and adults, focusing on education, protection, livelihoods, and mental health services. Our programs provide children with access to safe learning environments, psychological support, and vital resources like clean water and sanitation. We also help families in displacement camps by improving infrastructure and supporting livelihoods, ensuring children have the best possible chance of recovery and protection amidst ongoing challenges.
